The Maserati Ghibli was named after a hot desert-wind from the Sahara and first introduced in 1966. Designed by the star designer Giorgio Giugiaro, who at the time had just started working for Ghia, the Ghibli could definitely keep up with it’s competitors over at Ferrari and Lamborghini – at least when it came to the looks.

Powered by one of the finest sounding V8 engines that were ever built in the 20th century, the Maserati Ghibli could reach 100 km/h (60 mph) in under 8 seconds and had a top speed of 265 km/h (164.5 mph). As the car was always considered fairly gorgeous, in the late 80s some models even sold for over a Million Dollars, which now would be even more. Today you can get one of these for round about 250,000 $, which compared to the Million seems rather fair.

What only a few people realise is that the Ghibli was only reintroduced back in 2013 after having gone out of production in the early 70s. Even though the two share the same name, todays Maserati Ghibli isn’t a sports car but a powerful 4-door luxury sedan, still it is a pretty cool car combining Luxury with an aggressive sporty look. But more on that in a later post…
